Martha Jefferson Welcome to Motherhood support group – Join us to share the ups and downs of this challenging time. Plan to bring your baby and relax with new friends who understand what being a new mother is all about. Registration is not required for this free support group. Meets first and third Thursdays of each month, 10:30 a.m. – noon.
Month 10 Postpartum Doula Services – Professional postpartum doula services in your home following delivery
New Mothers Support Group (at bend) – Led by two Women’s Initiative therapists, the group will meet each Monday to support women as they navigate the changes in life following the birth of their children. Open to all women, whether they have had their first baby or their fifth, and of course babies are always welcome. Group is free to all.
This drop-in support group is for postpartum women who are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety or simply trying to navigate their new role as a mother. The group focuses on giving support, learning skills for coping, managing the stress related to the transition to motherhood. Having social support from a group of other mothers has been shown to help in the recovery of pregnancy and postpartum mood changes.
Postpartum Support Virginia – Postpartum Support Virginia provides hope and help to women and their families who are experiencing anxiety, depression, or other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). Great online information about local services.
In-Hospital Consultations: Our lactation consultants visit with every new mother after delivery. We also offer lactation support to all moms and babies coping with breastfeeding difficulties. Our NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) provides support to families on a variety of breastfeeding issues unique to NICU babies. We also provide follow-up phone calls to all breastfeeding moms for ongoing support.
Our services are offered seven days a week.
Outpatient Follow-up Visits: For personal breastfeeding issues, including:
- Evaluation of latch and milk intake
- Help with increasing milk supply
- Management of breast refusal or nipple confusion
- Evaluation of nipple and breast pain
- Treatment for plugged ducts, engorgement, mastitis and sore nipples
- Evaluation and treatment of tongue tie
- Management for slow weight gain
- Support for complex breastfeeding issues
